Come Let Me Tell You "The Secret"

The bible says” You want something but don't get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God” James 4:2 We know that this cannot mean that all we do is give him a laundry list of all our needs and wants and boom, like magic, we get it. NOT! So there has to be a secret.... as I read the book of Matthew I found that there were things that the Lord shared with the disciples that were secrets...these things for their ears only.

When he spoke to the crowds he spoke in parables. It was as if he did not them to clearly understand. The disciples asked him why do you speak in parables? Why not speak clearly and tell them what you want them to understand? Jesus responded because there are things that you have to know ‘me’ in order to understand. In other words if you just want to get it immediately that's not going happen. Certain things you have to know him personally in order to understand. I suppose it’s like anything valuable. If you want to be a specialist in something engineering, teaching, psychology you need to go to school and obtain that information. That lesson is reserved for the few who choose to seek further education.

Jesus spoke in parables (riddles) so that the only ones who would understand where the ones who knew him and paid special attention. There clearly is something wrong if 10, 15, 25 yrs you are in the same place. If your season of lack is prolonged there is a secret you need to learn to get out of that place. You need to go into a deeper walk a clearer understanding and you need to become privy to His secret. Well, he has things he wants to give us but can’t because his hands are tied. Getting to that special place and trusting him for change or for things is scary. We fear disappointment, or what if what I am praying for comes through. Even if the place where we are is not a happy place, there is a level of comfort in that place. It’s familiarity. Taking the step of faith means the possibility of change. He has no problem with being dared! He says “prove me” or ‘dare me’ and see if I won’t come through for you. You have not because you ask not.

It's time we go the next step in our walk with him....trend unfamiliar waters live a life that is uncomfortable and even excitingly dangerous....why? This is the only way that we will be able to go deeper and learn "the secret" that he so longs to tell us. We want to go there and often there is a dark and possibly lonely road to that place of secrecy but what a reward to learn that "secret" that he has for us. This is the key to any and all the problems we will ever have....once you learn the road to that secret place you will want to go back regularly.
